oh the fickleness of a teenager

Oh my goodness...

Does anyone out there understand the creature known as the Teenager???

Sigh

My delicate little constitution struggles big time . . . .

One minute I am cherished and adored. The next I am hated and despised.

It gets to me, truly it does. My struggle to stay 'in control' is costing me dearly. I just want to either run a thousand miles, or knock them out, or hug them and kiss them. Aggghhhhhhhhh

I honestly dont know how I am going to make it through these years.... I still have at least 6 years to go before my younger daughter turns 20.

Am just shaking my head in disbelief and horror.... sigh

oh well.

Thats what friends are for I guess......

Hi Jen
Hang in there!! I raised 3 boys and they definitely go through a stage where they are trying to claim their own independence and it's SO frustrating. Their hormones are raging too haha
It's hard to adjust to them not wanting our company, advice and love and it's easy to feel bad about that but it's so normal. You are NOT alone!!
And if it helps, they return to needing us and wanting us ♥
Don't run away now....your blog friends need you!! :)

It doesnt matter what she did Michelle - its all the same shit, different day. Karma yes.

Been there, done it. I promise it got better! Highs & lows all through the years. My girls are 18 and 20 now. My oldest and I get along wonderfully. My youngest & I get along great but not 100% perfect. We have moments still. She is a Senior and the oldest lives in another town going to college. I must say, it is worth all the lows, as I couldnt be prouder of who they have become. Hang in there!

Thanks for the very funny one-word comment today.

Coincidentally, I said to another blogger a few hours ago that we were all teenagers at one time!!

Jen said...

David, yes we were, and boy do we forget... although i always intended to remember. I cant for the life of me remember being this unbalanced!!??!! ☺

Jen, control is futile... resistence is pointless.....

The only thing that it is important to have control of is you....

But they can be heart-rendingly frustrating..... >_<

Oooh...I remember the teenager years! Nasty business! But thankfully, most of those teens grow into beautiful, loving, nurtuing adults. Be brave my friend! And drink lots!

I wish I could convince every teenager in the world that they will grow up and be sorry for how they treated their parents! I was one of the worst. You will make it through this, and your bond will be stronger because of your battle!

Thank you everyone for your support.. it is soooo hard, I am a bit too sensitive too. Doesnt help :}

I happen to live with two such creatures myself. Yes, you don't know whether to drug them or to drug yourself. I end up not drugging anyone. Instead, I start talking about something educational and, suddenly, all the children scatter and there is silence. (Talking about quantum physics, it seems, is most effective.) :-)

My two teens are girls and there is nothing more frightening than having teenage girls under your roof. There is always some major drama going on... ALWAYS. So, on occasion, you just need to lock yourself in the bathroom, turn up some relaxing music (so you don't hear the knocking at the door), and relax in a hot bubble bath. It does wonders for the mind and soul.

Hang in there. ♥

I totally sympathise. I have a nearly 13 year old and a 15 year old, and a 9 year old that seems to think he's a 15 year old (do hormones start earlier in boys?). My theory is that this behaviour is God's way of making us glad when they leave home!!!

At least six years to go? Does that mean it may take her longer to reach 20?

Found you from David M's blog. Sorry to be sarcastic the first time I commented---I couldn't resist.

I used to see some holy horrors out there but they turned out to be pretty nice young adults. However, in the meantime.....why mother's go gray aye? The fact that you are sensitive speaks volumes in a good way, in that you must be a great mother because you care so much. It all works out believe me.

LOL - talk about something educational.. LOVE IT!!! Will give it a go post haste!!

Cheerful - YES!!! My almost 9yo boy acts like a teenage girl!! its totally weird, but he has learned very fast off his sisters!!

Barbaloot - Sarcasm is fine... and yes I get you - I kinda meant that it is 6 years til she is 20, but with her personality, the teenage syndrome could go on for longer. She was a 'terrible 2' until she was at least 5!!!

Thanks Denise - am counting on the fact that it will be all ok in the end :)
